When I was 14 my dad bought an old '82 Firebird S/E for my brother to fix up. It was rattle-can primered gray and had a few rips in the seats. The headliner was missing and the car was missing a few other parts as well. On top of all that, the car didn't run. I can remember wishing it was my car. I'd sit in the driver's seat and look through the T-tops, pretending to drive. Somewhere between the faded No Fear sticker on the windshield and the rusty exhaust tips, I saw potential where no one else did.
