Stereo PDF Print E-mail

I've always been one to play with electrical equipment. Ever since I was young I have enjoyed taking apart radios and wiring them up to different speakers and such. It was no surprise that I've installed some sort of stereo system in all of my cars. I wanted to design a system that would play loud and clear while looking as good as it sounded. I shopped around for awhile to see what type of subs I wanted to go with. Having had JL previously, I knew I couldn't go wrong with a full JL set-up, however after I added things up the bill was a little more than I could afford. Instead I went with Alpine. I started with a custom fiberglass box. I first saw the box in a newer Trans Am at a few local car shows. I heard the owner was selling the car and that he was also selling the box. I wasted no time and the box was soon being fitted into my car.

Here's how it sat in the previous owner's car when I saw it.

And in mine.

I had the box painted when the car was painted to match. I also installed the subs, amplifier and hooked it all up.

Next I picked up a set of 6.5" Alpine Type R Components. I was going to buy a set of already made kick panels to house the speakers in, but what's the fun in that? I used a little bit of wood, cloth, fiberglass, angel hair, and a set of stock kick panels to create these.

After some sanding I covered the panels with carpet and installed the speakers.
